Resource Room is proud to bring high quality and cutting edge STEM Programs for all children ages 5 through 13. Taught at our new location on 534 Forest Avenue.

The Resource Room’s after school and summer STEM Programs engage students in real world science and engineering.  Our instruction targets skills like problem solving, creative -thinking, decision making , classifying,  and team building. All of our programs are hands on and engaging for children between the ages of 5 through 13.

We work to bring scientific and engineering based instruction into everyday experiences.  Whether it be learning through the eyes of an engineer, robotics designer, physicist, geologist, or ecologist. Every session, each child who attends an after school or summer class will understand and experience  the many disciplines of science.

As a team, students will build, design, and explore how their creations can be used to solve real world problems within design, construction, and the environment.

Children who attend The Resource Room STEM programs also dispel stereotypes about who can excel in science.  All boys and girls attending classes understand that science learning is simply fun for everyone.  It does not matter how old you are, your learning level, or what gender you may be.

We Learn, We Build, We Play….with LEGO BRICKS.

In this fun, educational class, students will experience hands-on engineering fundamentals as they build motorized models using LEGO ® Bricks.  This summer the theme is LEGO soccer. Children will test their building and designing skills as they are introduced to engineering, architecture and scientific principles. Allow their imagination and creativity to soar play Lego Soccer.

(Children do not take the models or kits home.  Please supply a peanut free snack)

Build and design a Lego Robot that will collect Lego gold, clear your field and protect your Lego money.  Launch a Lego catapult and try to capture the other team’s gold.  Legoteers will play on our 4ft  x 4ft Lego boards.  Legoteers will learn how to build a robot with gears, motors, and various lego bricks and learn to program using the Mindstorm Lego software.

(This is a pre-cursor to Robotics EV3 and NXT ) (Children do not take the models or kits home.  Please supply a peanut free snack)

Come create your very own MASTERPIECE!  Students will learn step-by-step how to paint their own beautiful work of art.  Learn the science behind mixing and colors and different techniques to designing and paint their own pictures.

Rocket Science: TBA

Children will investigate a variety of concepts related to Newton’s Laws. These concepts include aeronautics as it applies to force and motion as they build and design their own rocket. Children will launch their own rocket; and test which prototypes of their rockets work best as they explore the “5 E’s” – Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate and Evaluate.  Students will use the science inquiry and engineering design process throughout as they explore, create, invent and innovate.   (Children do not take the models or kits home.  Please supply a peanut free snack)

Lego Builders: Price:TBA

Using the NXT/RCX Lego Mindstorm 2.0 software children will build, design and engineer a robot that will clear a field of Lego boulders, trees and abandon Lego houses and old cars.  Replace what is old with new Lego trees, greenhouses and a Lego windmill to produce reusable energy for the Lego community. (Children do not take the models or kits home.  Please supply a peanut free snack)

Allow their imagination and creativity to soar during a free-play building session at the end of each class.

Animal Lego: TBA

SO MANY ANIMALS, SO LITTLE HELP! We need you to join us in helping to make the environment for our LEGO animals more beneficial. ANIMAL ALLIES is a 8ft x 4ft game field.  The Lego mission is to build a robot that can feed, transport, and rescue the animals. It is up to you to build and customize your NXT Lego robot in order to complete various missions and tasks. Some missions include; Shark tank (carefully transport the shark tank to the proper exhibit), Panda Rescue (release Paula the Panda back into the wild), Feeding frenzy! (provide various animals with their proper diet), and more.    A strong team effort is required, as team members will collaborate in order to solve problems, build, test, and program their machines, using LEGO’s and technology. So, think like Scientists and Engineers and join us while you challenge yourself, learn, create and have fun in the process as you help us care for our LEGO ANIMAL Facility

Programs Ages vary. Programs are offered throughout the year for children ages 5 – 13:

  • Our group sessions are never overcrowded. This allows for collaboration, plenty of individual attention from instructors, and advancement of group thinking and communication skills.
  • Our Virtual Reality Computer Programming classes are capped at 8 students per section. Students will enter an immersive computer based world in a room dedicated to computer technology. Complete with a 8 foot projection screen for instruction and their own computer station and VR Headset.
  • Our classes are Taught by NYS Licensed Teachers
  • Our classes are targeted to encourage advancement in STEM coursework, but also foster creativity and group collaboration.

Students With Special Needs

  • For children with special needs we are pioneering a combined robotics and computer technology course.
  • Many students with verbal or language disabilities excel in computer based instruction.
  • We use that attraction to visual technology to create a fun and interactive learning environment unlike anything experienced during the school day.
